    About Durham Heart Ceremonies

Personal, elegant and unforgettable. Ceremonies for every chapter of life.

Whatever the occasion, your story deserves to be told with heart, style, and meaning. I'm a modern celebrant based in County Durham, creating beautifully crafted ceremonies for weddings, funerals, and naming days. Whether you're marking the beginning of a new chapter, honouring a life well lived, or welcoming a little one into the world, I work closely with you to design a ceremony that feels personal, genuine, and unforgettable. No scripts. No clichés. Just a celebration of what truly matters—your story.

Before becoming a celebrant, I spent 25 wonderful years teaching English in both state and private schools, including 10 years as Head of English. Alongside teaching, I’ve enjoyed a wide range of roles — from working as an office manager and writing quiz questions, to appearing as a TV extra for the BBC. I’ve also worked for The Northern Echo newspaper, been a librarian at The Minster Library in York Minster, and supported residents as a care assistant in a care home.

Today, I combine my work as a celebrant with teaching English to children who are too poorly to attend mainstream school — a role that keeps me grounded in compassion and resilience.

Outside of work, I’m a proud mum to two daughters, aged 11 and 13. I love reading, swimming, gardening, and listening to podcasts and audiobooks. I also share my home with Daisy, my little tuxedo cat, who often keeps me company while I’m writing and planning ceremonies.

Every ceremony I create is personal, heartfelt, and meaningful — crafted with care to reflect your story and your wishes.

      Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach me at durhamheartceremonies@outlook.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

In England and Wales, a celebrant-led wedding is not currently a legal ceremony—yet!
This means that while I’ll create and lead a beautifully personal, bespoke wedding ceremony that feels completely ‘you’, you’ll also need to complete the legal side separately at a register office. Many couples choose to do the legal formalities a few days before or after, often treating it like signing paperwork, so they can focus on making their celebrant-led ceremony the true heart of their celebration.

It’s your love, your way—with the freedom to hold your ceremony anywhere, include anything you like, and make it as meaningful and memorable as you want.

      Pricing & Booking
To reserve your date, a non-refundable booking fee of £100 is required for all ceremonies. This secures your chosen time and begins the planning process.

      • Weddings: £650 – Includes a full consultation, bespoke scriptwriting, ceremony delivery, and a keepsake copy of your ceremony.

      • Funerals: £250 – Includes a family meeting, personalised tribute writing, ceremony delivery, and liaison with your chosen funeral director.

      • Naming Ceremonies: £300 – Includes planning sessions, a fully tailored script, ceremony delivery, and optional symbolic elements (like promises or certificate signing).

      Final Payments

To help everything run smoothly, here’s when final payments are due for each type of ceremony:

      • Weddings: Final balance is due 4 weeks before your ceremony date.

      • Naming Ceremonies: Final balance is due 2 weeks before the ceremony.

      • Funerals: Full payment is due on or before the day of the ceremony, depending on whether you're booking directly or through a funeral director.

If you’d like to discuss payment plans or need flexibility, I’m always happy to help—just ask.

It’s never too early to start planning a meaningful ceremony. For weddings, I recommend booking 12 to 18 months in advance, especially for popular dates and seasons, to ensure plenty of time to create something truly bespoke. Naming ceremonies are typically booked 3 to 6 months ahead, allowing space to plan a joyful, personal celebration. Funerals are, of course, often arranged at short notice, and I’ll always do my best to be available when you need support the most. Whatever the occasion, I’ll guide you every step of the way with care, clarity, and flexibility.

I’ll arrive in good time before your ceremony—usually around an hour in advance—to check in with you, liaise with your venue or coordinator, and make sure everything is perfectly in place. I’ll stay until the ceremony is complete and you’re happy, never rushing off or watching the clock. Whether it’s a wedding, funeral, or naming ceremony, you can count on me to be calm, supportive, and fully present throughout, ensuring everything runs smoothly and feels just right.
